Missy Mitchell's music ministry flows out of her heart's desire to encourage others as she was encouraged by Christian artists and their music throughout her growing up years. Legally blind from birth, Missy naturally is an inspiration to the disabled, however her message is one which provides hope and lifts the hearts of everyone who hears it. Combining the compassion and humor which years have etched into her personality, Missy poignantly weaves her victorious testimony with song and points the way to live joyfully in spite of imperfect circumstances. Missy pursued a music education degree from Oklahoma Baptist University and graduated with honors in 1993. Since that time she has continued to develop her talents utilizing the expertise of Tom Jackson (Performance Consultant) to insure the most effective communication of her message. Missy will complete a Masters degree in Christian Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy in May 2008. Congregations typically leave her concerts misty-eyed. They laugh as they relate to honest reflections of her human frailties and cry as they identify with her struggles. Missy's greatest desire is for them to leave with a new hope in the midst of struggle and a greater commitment to trust in God's plan for their lives. Following countless requests for a recording, Missy released her first project entitled, “He Remains Faithful” in 1994. Her second project, “Surrender,” was released in 1996. She was in the finals at Christian Artists Music Seminar 1992, opened for Margaret Becker at Fall Fest '94, opened for Wayne Watson at The ORU Mabee Center in 1996, opened for Larnelle Harris and Babbie Mason in 1997, provided the music for a city-wide church ralley with evangelist, David Ring, and sang with Larry Dalton and the Tulsa Synphonia in 1996. Missy was a guest artist for Café Estes at the Christian Artists Music Seminar of the Rockies in the summer of 2001. She was also honored to carry the Olympic torch for the 2002 Salt Lake City Games in Oklahoma City as a Tulsa representative. Another focus of Missy's ministry is The Little Light House - a tuition-free Christian developmental center for children with special needs. The school was founded by Missy's parents as a result of her limited vision. Having benefited from the school in her early years and having seen the impact The Little Light House has had on so many other lives, it is the desire of Missy’s heart to support and make others aware of this special school that God uses to touch so many.
